Continuing the tradition of providing quality music since its founding in 1949, the Fort Dodge Area Symphony presents its 2013-14 concert season under its new Musical Director and Conductor Joshua Barlage, the Managing Director of the Des Moines Symphony Academy. For more information about him, please go to his page by clicking on his name above.
The first concert on October 20, 2013 will start our season with the same type of music that Mr. Barlage played when he started his musical career in an opera's pit orchestra. Favorite operatic selections by Rossini, Bizet, Tchaikovsky and Verdi will get our season off to a fast start.
The Symphony's Holiday Festival concert will be held on December 8. The traditional Messiah Sing-a-Long will be included in a long list of favorite holiday songs. The featured soloist will be a native of Des Moines, Max Wellman, whose pleasant tenor voice is a perfect fit for holiday music.
Trumpeter Dr. James Bovinette, from Iowa State University, will be the featured soloist for the March 2 concert. He will be playing Tartini's Trumpet Concerto and Gershwin's Embraceable You.
The annual Young Artists Concert on April 27 will end the concert season with performances by the winners of the Young Artists competition.
The Symphony Board and our new Musical Director/Conductor are excited about the coming season. We are sure you will also be excited once you experience the beautiful music in the first concert. Please join us for what promises to be a very exciting season.
