Heading for the Yule Walk page

No yule walk is planned for this holiday season, but there are plans underway for a yule walk next year. The descriptions of the homes from last year have been left on this page as examples of the homes that have been included in previous yule walks.

The following home descriptions and photos are used by permission of Twist & Shout, Bev Baedke and Lisa Rolfes.

Rogers House

Martin and Sheryl Rogers
1625 Orchard Road

There will be a mixture of ‘old world’ and ‘new world’ in their brick home that is set among many trees. The color scheme is primarily different tones of beige and brown, with a splash of color in each room. The family room and dining room have 24 foot ceilings with an open staircase and walkway. There will be seven Christmas trees, from large to small, decorated in various spots around the home. They will be decorated with a lot of glitz and glamour. The tree in the living room circulates and will have all white lights.

Tim and Sally Kraayenbrink
1561 National Avenue

The Kraayenbrink's Christmas centers around church and family. Their nativity scene is the focus and “certainly depicts the true meaning of Christmas”. There will be a large tree in the family room, decorated with white lights, which holds a variety of ornaments from school-made gifts from the children, ornaments from grandparents, and ornaments from family trips. There will be a collection of cottages from the Dickens’ Village Series, which can be found throughout the house.

The Kraayenbrinks plan to decorate in a traditional style, in shades of ivory, champagne and sage, with touches of red, silver and gold. There will be lots of poinsettias, and the dining room table will be set for an elegant Christmas meal.”

wallacehouse

Drs. Lincoln and Kelli Wallace
2226 Dawson Drive

The Lincoln and Kelli Wallace home is located in the Breen addition. The holidays at the Wallace home is all about family. The three children, Max, Clare and Ellie love the Christmas season and it will be evident by the main tree in the living room that will be decorated by the family with their handmade ornaments. The four season room will be ready for hot chocolate and smores with peppermint accents and their large dining area will be awaiting Christmas dinner. You may see hats, mittens, scarves and ice skates, remnants of snowmen and a few other surprises throughout the home. The Wallace's home will be one that will bring you comfort and joy this Christmas season.

Dr. Kyle and Phyllis Ver Steeg
2103 140th Street

The home of Kyle and Phyllis Ver Steeg is located just off Highway 169 adjacent to the Clare Blacktop. This home is influenced by the "Prairie Style" architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, with a low profile, wide overhangs reaching out to the landscape and a central massive stone fireplace that anchors the floor plan. Enter the piano bar and enjoy the music of Christmas played by Linda Bensen of Gowrie. The great room, with it's beautiful stone floors, will have a warm cozy feel with the woodburning fire place and the 12' tall Christmas tree that will have a train that will be traveling around the tree. The lower level of the home has recently been remodeled with a western theme and will be decked out in wild west style Christmas. Kyle and Phyllis enjoy entertaining and use the unique bar and barstools to create a fun experience for their guests. The decorations have been kept simple. The nature from the outside of their home has been brought in to complete the Frank Lloyd Wright style Christmas. Outdoors you will find many lights to enhance the home. This truly unique home will have you mesmerized.

Kim Rolfes of Kim Design, Gowrie, has helped with the decorating .
